Suspicious Email
Posted 12/13/18

Dear SRVUSD Staff and Parents,

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is one of several institutions nationwide that received email threats that appear to be a hoax. According to news reports, emails containing similar content have been sent to organizations ranging from schools, to colleges, to religious institutions. All threaten action and demand payment in Bitcoin. The FBI is aware of the threats and police organizations throughout the country continue to investigate the emails, including local law enforcement here in the San Ramon Valley.

Some SRVUSD staff have indiscriminatorily received this threatening email. We want to reassure everyone that we have no reason to believe that the threat is credible and we are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety. Our initial investigation indicates that the email originated in Russia. The threat was not specific to any geographical location or institution. Schools have received similar emails in the past without consequence.

As always, we ask that “if you see something or know something, say something.” Each SRVUSD school has an anonymous tipline link posted on the school website. Tips about any threat can be reported using the tipline. The safety of everyone on our campuses is our highest priority.

If you have questions or concerns, please email Communications@srvusd.net.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Graswich

Director, Communications & Community Relations
